I know, I’m a horrible daughter.
My dad’s birthday was Friday. And no, I didn’t forget, per se. I just had a momentary lapse of time. Which happens when you work at a newspaper and are perpetually working in the future.
So, to make up for it … I’m blogging about the things I’ve learned from my dad over the years.
1. Never settle for an ‘A’. You can always do better.
2. Always be prepared – and then prepare some more.
3. Be flexible … Things aren’t planned until they happen. Anything can change between now and then.
4. Always, ALWAYS be polite. Say please, thank you, yes ma’am, no ma’am, yes sir, and no sir.
5. Always listen to your mother … she’s the ‘real’ boss of the house. Dads are just the enforcers.
6. Everything has it’s place … and if it isn’t it its place, you’ll find it in the trash (or on top of the refrigerator.)
7. Not everyone is as fortunate as you, so be thankful for what you have.
8. Life is tough, but it’s even tougher if you’re stupid.
And lastly … you’ve proved that ANYONE can be a father, but it really does take someone special to be a DAD. (Now, if only you’d stopped with me … you wouldn’t have that other kid to deal with.)

Thanks dad … for all your wisdom and all the things I have yet to learn from you. Wish I could be there to bake you a cake, but then we’d eat it all and bitch about it later. Enjoy the peace and quiet for another day or so before Mom comes home.
Love,
The GOOD daughter
