Our Italian Christmas dinner

Scott and I spent Christmas with our friends Laura & Tony, Laura’s mom Cookie, and her sister Sarah. Laura put out a great spread for dinner .. she joked that she chose Italian because she wanted me to make tiramisu. I think we all were happy with that decision. This was probably the first time I didn’t feel so stuffed from Christmas dinner that I needed a nap. Now, I’m not going to say a nap wouldn’t have been nice … but I certainly didn’t go into a food coma.

We started off snacking on olives and cheese (I missed out on getting pics of the cheese tray) …

Then moved on to the main event …. Laura whipped up this awesome salad – looks so gourmet doesn’t it?

This tortellini soup was awesome – I could have probably spend the entire evening eating bowl after bowl of soup, it was that good. Plus, it was nice to start with something a little lighter ;)

Ahh, the main event – lasagna! This was so delicious! I have no idea what she put in it to make it so good, but it was perfect. Probably way better than most of the lasagnas I’ve had before – must have been made with LOVE! And let’s not forget our garlic bread – made with hot dog buns – that were the perfect accompaniment to the lasagna. Sarah topped them with some garlic and butter and popped them in the oven. We promptly forgot about them when we got distracted by wine charms, but we were able to only lose a few pieces.

And lets not forget the Christmas cookies! I brought up this tray of cookies made (mostly) by my aunt. There’s haystacks (left at top), fudge, M&M bars, ginger snaps, icebox cookies, spritz cookies, toffee bars (made by Scott’s mom), divinity, and oreo truffles (at bottom right) that I made. We did some damage on this one – I think we snacked on these ALL day!

We rounded out the night with the guys heading downstairs to play Wii golf and the girls taking over the living room to watch Mamma Mia! Then we rounded up the guys and sat down for some tiramisu cake.

Scott and I couldn’t have asked for a better Christmas! Thanks Laura for cooking and inviting us up for the day … we had a blast and can’t wait to do it again!

  1. I love themed dinners for the holidays! We did Italian last year and it was a nice change of pace from the usual holiday fare. Your italian dinner looks delicious! (and I don’t blame your friend choosing Italian… if it meant you’d make tiramisu – lol!) :)
